My 6 year old is currently undergoing evaluation at her public school and this is something I brought up to them, having researched it years ago when I couldn't even dress her in the mornings without hours of tears. She is now in the 1st grade and is having a really difficult time learning to read and with phonics in particular, she is getting a lot of help at school, but we are considering homeschooling her so we can work around the sensory issues, as she still has a very difficult time getting dressed, everything "feels gross". My kids have Sensory issues and now I realize I do too. My son's is pretty severe- we took him for testing when he was 4 and they said "oh everything is fine" I found out they had only done autism spectrum tests and nothing else. He couldn't hold a pencil correctly until recently (after working with therapists.) He is very gifted and never has had problems in school so they wouldn't do further testing. We went independently and had an OT do a test on him and found out it was sensory. I feel like a weight has been lifted, although I still don't know what to do from here.
